アメリカ合衆国アリゾナ州フェニックス生まれ、台湾育ち。4 歳でヴァイオリンを学び始めた。11 歳で、サン＝サーンスのヴァイオリン協奏曲3 番を台北交響楽団との共演でデビュー。恩師のグレゴリー・リー氏を追い、16 歳で米国に移住。同年、カーティス音楽院に入学、アーロン・ローザンドに師事。その後、ルイス・カプラン氏の指導の下、ジュリアード音楽院で修士号を取得。2018 年、第10 回インディアナポリス国際ヴァイオリン・コンクールでは優勝に加え、予選でのミルシティン作曲「パガニーニアーナ」、クラシカル・ファイナル審査でのクライスラー作曲「中国の太鼓」、ファイナル審査でのブルッフ作曲「スコットランド幻想曲」の演奏により、3 つの特別賞を受賞。他にも、仙台国際音楽コンクールでの優勝及び聴衆賞、ハノーファー・ヨーゼフ・ヨアヒム国際ヴァイオリン・コンクール3 位、シンガポール国際ヴァイオリン・コンクール2位、聴衆賞とベストリサイタル賞、マイケル・ヒル国際ヴァイオリン・コンクール第2 位及びニュージーランドコミッションワークベストパフォーマンス賞などを受賞。また、ヴィエニャフスキ国際ヴァイオリン・コンクール、上海アイザック・スターン国際ヴァイオリン・コンクールでも入賞している。 Born in Phoenix, Arizona and raised in Taiwan, Richard began his violin studies at the age of four. He gave his public debut at age of eleven performing the Saint-Saëns Violin Concerto No. 3 with the Taipei Symphony Orchestra. At sixteen, he moved to the United States to follow his teacher Dr. Gregory Lee who was newly named to the violin faculty at the University of Oklahoma. In the same year, Richard was accepted to the Curtis Institute of Music and studied with respected pedagogue Aaron Rosand. He later received his master’s degree at The Juilliard School under the tutelage of renowned professor Lewis Kaplan.Richard Lin is the newly crowned Gold Medalist of the 10th Quadrennial International Violin Competition of Indianapolis which took place in September of 2018. In addition to the Gold Medal, Richard captured three Special Prizes for his performances of Milstein’s Paganiniana in the Preliminaries, Kreisler’s Tambourin chinois in the Classical Finals and Bruch’s Scottish Fantasy in the Finals.
